Make Your Bathroom an Oasis in 3 Steps

Make Your Bathroom an Oasis in 3 Steps

Bathrooms are easy to forget about when it comes to home decor. They're kind of just there. But like an earlobe (another thing that's just there), you can make them into an extension of your personal style and individuality. Ready to make your shower room stand out? Check out these three simple steps below. 1. Treat yourself to nice linens! Because a. you deserve it and b. they will make you smile when you look at them. If you're like me, chances are high that you pick out your towels in a nondescript color that matches with everything. But then it leaves your powder room looking grey and eh. The equivalent of the shrug emoji. Instead, get some towels in bold colors and patterns that will make your guests ooh and aah and will lend this part of your home a style on it's own. 2. Let your shower set the vibe It's likely the biggest, most visible piece in your peepee room so make it count. Think of what you would like to feel like or be reminded of when you walk in for your daily showers and get a curtain that will evoke that. It doesn't have to be bland because you, friend, aren't bland. 3. Store in style As much as I'm a dreamer, I have my moments of brutal realist pragmatism. A bathroom is not just an oasis of self-care but also a storage room for all things that clean, moisturize and dry our biological suits. Open shelves serve to hold all your ointments AND as displays for your cute towels and that cute and expensive bottle of perfume that you just love to look at as much as you love to wear. And don't forget your towel racks and curtain rod. Get them in colors that pop and bring out the super stylish atmosphere you've created. BOOM! Now you have an Apartment Therapy worthy bathroom :-) You're welcome. Check out my shop here for everything you need to deck out your bath space

How to Paint a Bunny

How to Paint a Bunny

Hello friends! Welcome to another blog post where I teach you how to do a thing. Today, the thing is how to draw and paint a bunny with pencil and watercolors. For this tutorial you will need a pencil, watercolor paints (nothing fancy), painting brushes and watercolor paper. That's it! You can get these things at Dollar Tree and Five Below. They are my favorite places to buy art supplies now. Let's jump right in! Using your pencil, lightly draw a large circle for the bunny bod and then a smaller circle on top for the bun bun head. Add ears. Floppy or standing. I'm going to do floppy like my bunny's ears. Add thumpers and scratchers. Don't forget the sniffer and the blinkers. Choose your colors. I like to use a round medium brush for the large areas that will mostly be one color and then a smaller round brush for the details like the head, ears and feet. Try not to paint over the lines so you can erase them when the paint is dry. Embellish as your heart desires! I'd love to see what you come up with! Share it with me on IG by tagging @itskeila.d :-) Big hug and kiss!

My Life with a Bunny (With Pictures)

My Life with a Bunny (With Pictures)

Sweet, cute, fluffy, playful, and mischievous. That's Bou, my pet bunny. She came into my life a year and a half ago when she was only a month old and I can't picture my life without her now. Living alone is great and one of the reasons it is so, is because you can have pets! If your landlord is cool with it of course. Bou makes living on my own way more fun but also way more complicated. It's a lot of fun times but there are also a lot of hard times when you are responsible for a bunny. This is coming from someone who has owned three massive dogs! If you're thinking of getting a bunny as a pet or if you're just curious about what having a pet bun is like, let me break it down for you. 1. Bunnies are VERY independent They pretty much take care of themselves, kind of like cats. There is no need to bathe them because they do that themselves about 6 times a day. They have fun on their own but you can join in sometimes. They don't like to be picked up or chased so don't do that! 2. YOU live with a Bunny, not the other way around Bou chose where her toilet was going to be. From the first day she came home she has pooped and peed in the same spot whether her toilet is there or not. I've tried changing her bathroom to a more convenient place (for me) but she doesn't care. I've LITERALLY picked her up while she's doing her business and taken her to my preferred place and she has run right back to her corner. So yeah, you're not the boss. 3. They eat ALL the time Mostly hay. Bou's favorite place to hang out is her box of hay. She jumps in there and spends like an hour straight just chewing on her hay. When she's done, she hops out and flops on the cold ground. In the morning I like to feed her some leafy greens which are also important for bunny diets. Nothing fancy though, just a fist full of the same spring mix I use for my human salads. 4. Bunnies BITE! Can you believe it? I've been nibbed a couple of times by Bou and let me tell you that IT HURTS. She's like a pitbull! She clamps down and LITERALLY hangs on. It doesn't happen often, mostly when my hand startles her. Rabbits can't see well up close might confuse your hand with something threatening. 5. She goes EVERYWHERE with me Even to work. I'm lucky that I have my own office and my bosses are cool with a bunny hanging out all day while I work. When I visit my parents she also comes along and gets to hang out all day in the Florida room. She almost never wants to leave. She was banned for a couple of weeks due to chewing on some A/C insulation, but grandfather has taken care of that and she has since been allowed back. 6. Bunnies Love the Head Pats Bou loves to jump on me and nudge my hand to get pets from me. My favorite thing is to see her turn into a loaf and chatter her bunny teeth as a sign of pure bliss. She decides when the petting session is over by leaping away and proceeding to lick herself clean of the human scent. 7. Trouble is a synonym of bunny I've lost many iphone chargers to Bou's sharp incisors. It's not so much that she LIKES to chew on cables, more that they were in her way when she was trying to hop through. There was also that A/C incident at the grandparents' house. There have been poops in places there shouldn't be. She chews books. She jumps in hampers. She digs. She's a lot. 8. Don't scare bunnies Because they can literally die of fright. 9. Spay/Neuter If you don't want sprays of pee lining your walls, furniture and self. 10. Adopt a bunny Instead of buying a new one. Bunnies are getting turned into to local shelters all the time because once people see how much work they require, they're not up for it. Check your local shelter right after Easter. By then the bunny novelty fades and the reality of the maintenance sets in. Also, bunnies are not pets for children! Kids are not prepared to care for rabbits. Is there anything else you would like to know about Bou or what life is like with a pet bun? Tell me in the comments! I'll answer all the questions :-)

Watercoloring, My 10-Step Process

Watercoloring, My 10-Step Process

It's been about two months since I started to work on the watercolor pieces that will make up the summer collection I plan to release in two months. Spending so much time painting has led me to come up with a process to keep myself sane and organized because I get very easily overwhelmed. I know that artists get the rep that they're messy but I don't label myself as an artist mostly because I feel I have such a long way to go to get to where I want my art to be. And because I haven't earned that "artist" badge yet, I have to keep myself tidy lol This is a breakdown of how I do that: 1. Set Up and Sketch In my tiny studio apartment there isn't a ton of space to be messy or to keep a lot of stuff so I confine my creative space to my desk. When I get ready to start a new project I take out my sketchbook and a pencil and I pencil out some ideas. For inspiration I prop my phone up and display something similar to what's on my mind to paint. 2. Choose Colors After I have a solid idea of what my piece is going to look like I move on to choosing my color palette. I have trouble distinguishing between reds so I try to stay clear of those if I can lol I like bright, contrasting colors. To aid in this part of the process I use a color wheel I printed out a while back. Then I swatch colors on a piece of watercolor paper to see how they look together. This is probably the longest part of the process, mostly because of my color issue. 3. Existential Crisis This is an important part of the process. I allow myself to nap and play solitaire on my phone because I am afraid that when I start to paint it will be lame and no one will like it. Friends, I'm not even kidding when I tell you that I go through a whole existential crisis before I sit down to paint. Sometimes, I don't even paint for weeks after step 2. 4. Snap Out Of It After all that, I sit down at my desk once again and get back to it. I look back over my sketches and the color palette and I think "okay, I can work with that." 5. PAINT Painting involves me outlining very lightly with pencil what my piece will look like. I choose my brushes, set up a cup with water and lay out some paper towels for cleaning and drying the brushes. Then I paint the first layer in very light watercolor, then I add another layer and another until it looks like what I had in mind. 6. Reward Myself With Dance Party I then dance. My go to is "I Want to Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston. A classic. 7. Scan, Edit, Export When the paint is dry as bone, I scan it at 300 dpi and open it up on Ps. I tweak the colors, remove the paper background and play around with it until it's to my liking. Sometimes i make it into a pattern and sometimes I leave it as a stand alone piece. Once it's done I export it as a PNG. 8. Try It On Different Objects The product design process is my favorite! Seeing something I painted, on a mug or a comforter or a journal gives me all the HAPS! Usually, when I start painting I have an idea of what kind of object I want the piece to go on and sometimes through the product design step, I discover what else it would look good on. 9. Add Product to Shop Adding the products to my shop is the most nerve racking part of the process. Once it's live in the shop, everyone can see it. I leave it there without telling anyone for a week. It is a secret. 10. Then I tell you Guys and Y'all Buy It! This last step is sooooooo AMAZING! You all never disappoint in showing up and supporting little old me and my watercolor designs. Getting that email notification about an order going through makes my days! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Below are five easy ways that you can incorporate art into your life without having to fill every wall in your home or office with frames upon frames. But you can do that too though! But here are more ideas lol 1. Accessories Carry your art with you! Get a piece that makes you feel happy when you look at it on your phone case or maybe a mug that adds an extra touch of YAY! to your morning coffee. Some great places to get art pieces that speak to you are Society6 and Redbubble. Plus every purchase you make there supports an artist! Happiness all around. 2. Accent Home Decor Adorn your couch with a favorite print on a cushion or let your comforter comfort you with a calming piece by a fav artist. A welcome rug with an inspiring message and a fresh and clean design on bath can add those finishing touches to your home, making it feel more like...well, home! 3. Wear the Art Let others gaze upon your great taste by adorning yourself with a t-shirt, dress, cap or leggings with a piece you love on it. It's also a great way of wearing something very few other people have and will make you instantly cooler! 4. Journals and Agendas Yes, I am a sticker fan and an agenda addict. I have journals galore and I don't know how to stop buying them. Send help! And while you do, consider displaying the art that speaks to your soul in your journal or agenda. Maybe it's in the form of a sticker or a small print of a piece. Either way, it is art that you like and that can make a very hectic week seem a little easier :-) 5. On The Walls, duh Yeah, if you really like it and you really want it put it up on your walls! Wherever you choose to display your art, have fun! It's not homework :-P And if you want to support my art check my pieces out at the Shop tab up above :-D

10 Ways to Quickly Optimize Your Smartphone Usage

10 Ways to Quickly Optimize Your Smartphone Usage

Wherever I go, it is with me. Even when I sleep, it's right next to me. Sometimes I grab it and I have absolutely no idea why. It answers all my questions but it also wastes a lot of my time. It is my most important productivity tool and also my biggest time suck. It's part of my lifestyle and without it I'd be useless. I think. Maybe. I don't know. I am speaking of course about my phone. Can you relate? I can forget my wallet or lock myself out of my house, run out of gas or get lost in a foreign city. As long as I have my phone on me, I can see myself out of any situation. But I can also expertly waste time better spent, scrolling endlessly. Did you know that there is a "You're All Caught Up" notification on Instagram? There is. And I simply must see it everyday at least once. Don't ask me why, I just must. But, because I am trying to manage my time better to be the best version of me I can be and get all the things that I want, I am trying to use my phone more productively and I want to share what is working for me. Behold! 10 ways to optimize your phone usage: 1. Delete Apps You Don't Need Go to settings and look at the list of all the apps on your phone. When was the last time you used some of those? Delete them. Don't feel like you downloaded and now you HAVE to use it. Get rid of it and save some space on your phone. 2. Turn Off Notifications Except for Essential Apps You don't need to know about every email that comes in or every Facebook post that your friends post or how many people like your Insta post at the moment that they like it. In the end these end up being major distractions. So, in settings, turn off notifications for ALL your apps and then go through the list and turn them on just for the most important ones. This will help with anxiety and attention span. I promise! 3. Do Not Disturb is Your Friend Not every text needs an immediate reply. Most messages really don't. Want to read a book and actually get enough pages in? Set your phone to DND. Sleep as soon as you're in bed? Set DND. Driving? DND. 4. Use the Search Feature for Everything Not just when you want to know what time it is in Australia. Need the calendar app? Search for it in the search bar. You'll get there much quicker than you would if you looked for it manually and you will also avoid getting distracted along the way. 5. Speech to Text or Audio Message Quicker way to respond when you're driving or focused on something else but you want to keep the conversation going. Like when you're talking to a crush yah know ;-) 6. Analyze Screen Time I love looking at data and analyzing trends and adjusting my behavior to get the numbers I want. It's the reason I wear a smartwatch and also the reason I constantly look at how I spend my screen time. This will help you know if you're spending your phone time wisely or if you could do better. Too much time on Instagram? Guilty! Work to check it a set number of times a day and see how much more efficient you are in other things 7. Organize Your Home Screen Keep things simple on your home screen by only keeping the apps that help you achieve your goals. I want to improve the number of times I meditate so I keep a meditation app on my homescreen along with my email that's imperative for my work, my bank app, podcast app, and lightroom. Reducing the number of apps you see when you unlock your phone will reduce stress and anxiety. 8. Use the Timer to Stay Focused Stay on schedule by using the timer feature on your phone. Set the timer for as long as you need. You may even want to set several timers or alerts if you like multiple reminders. 9. Use Your Headphones Specially when it's loud and you need to stay focused. Play some white noise and stay focused on that task! It's also great to take calls hands-free. 10. Pocket This one I just found out about. It's the easy way to keep all your favorite sites in one place or to bookmark an interesting article or video you might have seen. Instead of letting it get lost on a safari tab or a notes folder, find it easily in your Pocket app. How do you keep your phone usage effective? Tell me in the comments :-) And of course, check out my shop in the Shop tab up top for cute covers for your phone!

A Brief Guide to Buying Art Online

A Brief Guide to Buying Art Online

Start with Photography Art It's easy to find a photo of something that you're into or that you find striking. And there are so many great photographers selling their art online, it is certain you will find something you will like. Not to mention that photography will be kinder on your wallet than paintings or sculptures. Art is also not limited to prints and sculptures friends! I am amazed by some of the things that Miami artists are doing with plants and vintage items. More on that below. Set a Budget and Stick to It Speaking of your wallet; determine how much $$ you're going to set for your art piece and stick to it. It's easy to get carried away buying things you find that you like so make sure you set filters to stick to your price range when you're searching on sites like Society6 and Redbubble. Also, consider how many pieces you're looking to buy for the money you set aside. Support New Artists Look close to home for your art. There are great but struggling artists all around you and if you want a piece that represents your city, your heritage, your culture; there is someone in your city that is probably portraying those elements in their work. An easy way to find them is to visit local galleries. One of my favorite places to discover local artists is the Wynwood Marketplace and the plant market on Saturdays at the Center for Subtropical Affairs in Little Haiti. < Here are some of my favorites. And if you'd like to support me check me out at society6.com/keiladiaz Use Art to Fill in Space Maybe you're thinking that you don't have space for a big piece in your home or you don't want to commit an entire wall to something that you might get over quickly. Don't worry! You can use art to fill spaces in your wall that look lonely. Say next to your mirror or by your desk or in the kitchen. Small art is still art friends! Prints are great and so are phone cases and stickers. Take art with you on your laptop or on your phone. Get What Speaks to You And of course, get something that makes you FEEL. It can be a good feeling or a melancholic one but let it be something that whenever you look at it, it speaks to a part of you or represents something you feel or says something that maybe you don't have words for.

5 Things To Do To Make 2021 Great

5 Things To Do To Make 2021 Great

Welcome back to the first blog of 2021! I am so excited to be back on my little internet soapbox sharing with you all the things that motivate and matter to me today. And that hopefully will matter to you by the time you're done reading this. A new year is an untold story. Your story. And you get to write it. Take some creative liberties and add some plot twists in there to keep us hooked. Either way I am rooting for all of you. With that spirit, I'm sharing 5 things that you can do (and that I will be doing) everyday to make 2021 your best year yet. 1. Rise Early A toughie for sure. I struggle with this so much friends. I have tried all the tricks like setting my alarm on my phone and then putting my phone way out of reach so I have to get out of bed to turn it off, I've tried drinking lots of water before bed so I have to use the restroom very early in the morning, and for a while I had someone call me multiple times until I was fully awake. None of that worked of course. The only thing that actually worked was getting a taste of that super awesome feeling of being awake before the world and seeing the sun rise. That ~feeling~ of peace, tranquility and success. It's great and sets the tone for the whole day. 2. Set Goals Working towards something gives us purpose and keeps us focused and organized. So write down at least three things that you want to accomplish this year and break them down over the year. Make sure you set a date for when you want to achieve them. Getting a calendar can help with this and it is a great record to look back at and see how much you've done. Remember, your goals can be whatever you want them to be. For inspo here are some of mine: visit an art exhibit once a month, travel to a new place, volunteer locally and sell at least one art piece per month. 3. Be Grateful If you follow me on Instagram you know about the little piece of wisdom my dad shared with me. In case you don't it's basically to find some good in your circumstances. Maybe you don't have your ideal job, or you are going to school and are tired of it, or you had a recent break-up, or maybe you're broke. All those situations have some silver lining and if we can focus on that then we can make them bearable until we can get out of them. Maybe even use that silver lining to light our way out of it. When I worked retail at a computer tech store that no longer exists, I dreaded going in to work every day. Even more so after I had graduated college and had no job prospects in my field. The customers were rude, the managers were demanding and my co-workers always had some drama. Tired of hearing me complain, my dad told me to find something I could look forward to and that way make the work day a little better. I found that I was grateful for having a job and being able to afford things I liked without placing that burden on my parents. That helped me get through it. Also my cousins worked with me and they're cool. 4. Be Present What happened is done and we don't know what the future holds. The now is really all we have so let's really be in it. I'm super guilty of constantly being on my phone or worrying about what I need to do next but the times I have decided to really be in the moment I've felt so much better and have enjoyed things I would have otherwise missed. You have a pet? Spend some time watching them or playing with them and focus on their peculiar behaviors. VIsiting your parents? Ask them about their life before they had you. Stuck in traffic? Do a little people watching or listen to your favorite music. 5. Rest Even God rested on the 7th day. Also he was probably really tired after making the woman; His most advanced creation LOL But for real, rest is important. When you rest your body repairs itself and you can go back to business better than before. Get your full 7 hours of sleep, nap when you need it, take time for leisure activities and remember to breatheeeeeee. I wish you all the best for this year!
